The Governor's
House

Where Texas history becomes your story. A restored 1890s limestone inn on Historic Main Street.

125+ years of Texas hospitality

Our Legacy

Built by a governor.
Loved by travelers.

The Governor's House was constructed in 1894 for Colonel James Hay, a Texas statesman and three-term representative who later served as a confidential advisor to two U.S. presidents. For over a century, this limestone masterpiece has hosted dignitaries, artists, and anyone seeking the quiet refinement of the Texas Hill Country.

Today, after a meticulous three-year restoration led by a fourth-generation Fredericksburg stonemason, the inn retains every original pressed-tin ceiling, pocket door, and terrazzo floor — while adding only the amenities a modern traveler truly needs.

“We have stayed in mansions, resorts, and five-star properties across the world. The Governor's House is the first place that made us want to stay an extra week — and then cancel our other plans entirely.”
